Sanna (Mom)
I always loved this photo of my Mom--she said she was 16 when it was taken.
Here are a few of the steps I used to create the piece. You can see the outline of the rest of the piece through the white fabric.
Here I'm blending in some paint colors, trying to make it look like fir. Since the photo had no color I used my imagination to choose colors.
Almost there, the painting now complete.
Here I have started the decorative stitching to enhance the fir. This really makes the fir look more realistic.
I've also added some texture to the coat.
Overall, I'm quite pleased with the result of the portrait.
After it was quilted and the edge bound, I mounted the piece on a canvas frame so that it would hang like a picture.
