Old Round Barn

Old Barn

The “Old Round Barn” in Loleta, CA measures 28″ tall x 38″ wide. I made one prior project for my friend that was fun.  I decided to make this smaller version for myself.  The sky is painted.  The barn is as well and then thread added to give some detail then it is appliqued to the overall picture.  The foreground is a collage of many grassy prints.  The quilt is machine quilted with many various colors of threads which add details to the art piece.

A sleeve is sewn to the top back of the quilt for ease of hanging on a wall.

Total size of canvas 24″ x 48″

I enjoyed making this small quilt and adding it to a wrapped canvas painting. The quilt is mosaic picture pieced with an overlay of nylon tulle, Tiny piping and binding complete the quilt edge. The edges of the canvas are painted to extend the scene with acrylic paints.

It will be easy to hang from a wire.

Golden Memories

Memory of our staycation when our kids visited from the Midwest.  This is the backyard of our vacation rental.

The quilt has a hanging sleeve on the top back for ease of hanging.

Trinidad Sunset

Thomas Barn

I recently made a small quilt for friends. It’s a barn of the past.

22″ wide x 16″ tall

The boughs on the tree are constructed of Superior thread, using a water soluble stabilizer, and a layer of tulle.  I enjoy using this method to  make the boughs look more realistic.

Artichoke

This quilt was made using a photo of an overblown artichoke as inspiration.  It was dried up and left over from last years garden.  It caught my eye and I decided to use it as I experimented painting on silk.  The result was a fun project – of an unusual flower.

The use of silk has resulted in a very “light weight” feeling quilt.

It was displayed at the International Quilt Festival in Houston in 2021.  Also at the Redwood Art Assn. Feb. 2022 (given Honorable Mention)

Sequoia Trail

One of my favorite subjects, the redwood forest.  This one is small and is in the mosaic style that I enjoy.

Day in the Forest

This tiny quilt was made for a Studio Art Quilt Assn challenge.  It was a scene found in the Arcata Redwood Forest.  7″ x 9″

This tiny quilt was a photo transfer onto silk fabric and then heavily machine quilted.

I was honored to have the National Quilt Museum choose it for their Miniature quilt display–and then to feature it on March 14, 2021  #quiltmuseum30th
