Here I'm blending in some paint colors, trying to make it look like fir.  Since the photo had no color I used my imagination to choose colors.

Here I have started the decorative stitching to enhance the fir.  This really makes the fir look more realistic.

I've also added some texture to the coat. Overall, I'm quite pleased with the result of the portrait. After it was quilted and the edge bound, I mounted the piece on a canvas frame so that it would hang like a picture.
